After a successful pilot in North West Tasmania, Project O has grown to represent a national movement of young women driving change in their communities.
Piloted in Wynyard in 2014, Project O continues to run successfully in partnership with Wynyard High School and several key community organisations. In 2018, Project O began a rollout in Smithton – generating a broad cohort of young women leaders on Tasmania’s North West Coast.
In partnership with Mahogany Rise Primary School and Monterey Senior College in Frankston North, Project O will pilot and rollout its new digital inclusion strategy Digital O, from 2108 – 2022.
Project O in Roebourne, built on learnings from pilot communities, developing and trialling strategies to roll out the program in an Indigenous, intergenerational and digital context. This project has now moved into it’s legacy stage with a new project Punkaliyarra.
Based on positive findings in Tasmania, Project O ran successfully in Cooma, NSW in 2016 – 2017 with young women in Y8 & Y9. Key partners included Monaro High School and Birdsnest.
In partnership with Canberra Theatre Centre and Campbell High School, Project O ran a sister program to Cooma activity in 2017, with a focus on producing Colourathon at the NGA. Big hART also ran a capsule program in 2019, again in partnership with the NGA, called “Women in Art”.
